Updating elgg

It avoids having to reload the favicon every time for those that clear their history after every session and don't have a site bookmarked but visit it often.. While not perfect FF favicon handling is quite robust.

FF 60.0.1 - FF 61b5 - FF 62a - Palemoon 27.8.1 - TB 52.7 - Mac OSX 10.13.4Computers I've used: IBM 7094/UNIVAC 1108/IBM 360/DEC PDP11/DEC VAX-11 780/DEC VAXstation 8000/Sun SPARCstation 2/Mac from 1984 to 2018Some sites load favicons using old html methods and some sites load multiple favicons by examining aspects of the user (e.g., browser). The reason for the time delay from what I've read is to improve the performance of the browser. I believe the reason it isn't updated is he visits the site quite often resetting the favicon expiration time and, even though he deletes history, there can be up to a 24 hour delay before the actual favicon is removed from places.sqlite.

Open up your favorite terminal application (Most flavors store the default terminal application in the Accessories folder).

Also, in this example we are using the text editor called “nano” which is pre-installed on most linux distributions.

I'm probably the most biased person to be answering this (as one of the original Mahara developers), but ...

After you update the DNS for your site, make sure to remove any host entries that you may have added during the process to ensure the domain is resolving in the same manner on your local system as other users on the internet!

They are not changed for 24hours; note, this 24 hour period is bumped every time you visit a page.

Another thing to keep in mind when testing your site using the hosts file method- after updating your hosts file, you will need to clear the cache and cookies from your web browser and restart the browser in order for things to take full effect.

In some instances you may need to flush your DNS cache on the local system as well.

Once the text editor application opens, add your new host entry to the bottom of the file and save.
